Claim: While on the one hand, our farmers are working on modern agricultural techniques like micro-irrigation, drip irrigation and sprinklers, on the other hand, 99 big closed irrigation projects have also been revived.
Fact: False, the Irrigation projects were never closed to be revived.
Explanation: These 99 high-priority projects were never shut down. They were taken up under the Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Programme that began in 1996-97, and prioritised for completion by December 2019 under the National Democratic Alliance government in July 2016, “as these can be completed in a period of 2-3 years if estimated funds are available”, according to the NITI Aayog roadmap report.
Of these 99 projects, the BJP claimed to have completed 31 long pending irrigation projects in its 2019 manifesto, as FactChecker reported on April 9, 2019.
