Immunisation in India has been going on for 30-35 years. Nevertheless, until 2014 we were unable to achieve the goal of complete coverage. If we had continued with the same pace, India would have taken 40 more years to reach the universal coverage under immunisation.

Fact: False. India would have achieved complete immunisation by 2037, not 40 years later as the PM claimed.

Explanation: Over the last four National Family Health Surveys (between 1992-93 and 2015-16), immunisation coverage rose by, on average, 19.6 percentage points per cycle (separated by, on average, 7.6 years). Extrapolating from this, India will have 92% immunisation by 2029, and complete immunisation would have been achieved in less than 20 years (by 2037) and not 40 years, as the PM claimed.
